Management of the Playgroup
The playgroup is owned by St John’s Methodist Church, Potters Bar and governed by the Playgroup Board who is accountable to the Church Council of St John’s Methodist Church. The Playgroup Board is made up of church members plus the Manager and Leaders of both groups, chaired by Neil Wilson.

The bi-Annual Stakeholders Meeting is open to the parents/legal guardian of all of the children who attend the playgroups and to all staff. It is a forum for looking back over the previous year's activities and hearing about the coming year's activities. The day-to-day management of the playgroups is undertaken by the Manager (based at St John’s Methodist Church), who is also the leader at the church based setting, in cooperation with the Leader at Oakmere and the Deputies from both settings. The management work closely with all staff who attend regular meetings to ensure the smooth running of the settings.

Staff
All staff within the Foundations Stage are called Early Years Practitioners, whether they are trained as playgroup leaders, nursery nurses, playgroup assistants or teachers. At St John’s we have a high proportion of staff with qualifications in relevant early years practice which keeps us up-to-date with the most recent government requirements..

The Manger has attained Early Years Professional Status, a BA (Education Studies) and is embarking on her MA (Early Years). In the last couple of years, many of our staff have achieved NVQ Level 3 status. We are also very lucky to have staff that have been with us for many years providing much valued experience. We also have support from Young in Herts who provide outside support and training and we are members of the Pre-school Learning Alliance.

Enthusiastic and well trained staff brings a wealth of new ideas and concepts to the playgroup. The children address us by our surname (i.e. Mrs Mills), to get them used to this term of address for when they start nursery or school. All staff have been, and any future staff and regular volunteers, will be CRB checked. As well as those listed below we also have students and volunteers working (under supervision) with us at various times during the year.
